343 should’ve just committed to the path that Halo 4 set instead of bringing back Cortana

    2. Awesome graphics at the time, but the story was a horrible mess and the new enemies were boring as hell to fight. It was a disappointment at the time. I’ve only done two playthroughs of the game.

    3. Halo 4 has the best characterization of the Chief in any of the Halo games, rivaled only by Infinite. One of my favorite Halo campaigns.

I loved it personally. I didn’t get into Halo till 4 so I wasn’t a hardcore long time fan, so the changes like the art style, and multiplayer didn’t really get to me like it did to others at the time.

The story wasn’t perfect, it was rough around the edges but still good, I enjoyed it even after playing the previous games. The presentation was top notch, Halo 4 at the time and still to this day is extremely impressive looking. I also liked spartan ops, I prefer traditional firefight, but it was cool how they tried to do pve episodic mini missions with storytelling. Felt like Destiny before Destiny in a way.

    5. It’s been a downhill slide ever since 343i took over for me.

Halo 4 was one of the main reasons I decided to go multiplatform the following generation. It paled in comparison to Halo 3 or Reach. The multiplayer was the least enjoyable of the lot. I barely remember the campaign, wiped it from memory.

It sucks that it’s been over a decade and yet Halo still hasn’t found it’s footing. The only nice things I can say about Halo 4 is that at least campaign-wise it’s better than 5 and Infinite.

Me and my friend group played Halo 3 and Reach for literal years, but Halo 4 was dropped in weeks. Just a mediocre experience for me, personally.

    6. It had some good maps but the multiplayer was trash imo, I mostly stuck to swat where there was no killstreaks and it still felt like a halo game.

It’s a great game that did the best it could in continuing the Chief saga. Obviously in a perfect world the bittersweet ending of Halo 3 is what we were left with. I feel the same about TC having to continue the Fenix saga.

The visuals were insane for the time and the game had a lot to it. That being said, least memorable and way too complicated multiplayer. It doesn’t hold up. Halo 5 and infinite MPs are really solid.

    8. the story was cool but really loved some MP maps. One of my favorite Halo entries.

    9. I fucking loved it. People hated the multiplayer but I’ve got some great memories playing all together with my college roommates. It may have had its flaws, but j really enjoyed the loadouts and power weapon “killstreaks. Campaign story was alright, I’ve never playing halo campaigns for the story and thought this one was alright.

    10. I give it props for at least trying to do its own thing, even though the story just kinda apes CE

Spartan Ops had potential, jumping a mongoose into a Lich is the coolest thing you can do in a 343 game. The level where you get to go apeshit in a mantis is awesome as well.

Every other 343 game is basically a mockery of the originals, while trying to nostalgia bait people in as many visual ways as possible without staying true to the original gameplay, if the gameplay in 4 more closely resembled Halo 2 anniversary and the prometheans were balanced around that this could have been pretty special

    11. I like it, it does have some issues that keep it from being on the same level as the first 3 games though. No where near as bad as 5 was (I liked Infinite, if you’re wondering). This is just based off single player though, I’ve never been into Halo’s multiplayer.

    12. I’m a Halo veteran. Been playing since the days of Combat Evolved on the OG Xbox. I absolutely loved Halo 4. It’s honestly one of my favorites in the series. Here’s a few bullet points why.

      1. The new art style looked really good to me. I loved chiefs redesigned Mjolnir.

      2. I felt, campaign wise, it had the best character writing in the series. The story between Chief and Cortana was so personal. It was so refreshing to see Chief portrayed as an actual character, and not just a player avatar. Cortana’s slow decent into rampancy was engaging and mysterious. I was completely hooked on the campaign from beginning to end. It’s still best in series for me.

      3. I loved how 343 started integrating more of the external lore into the campaign and bringing their own creative flair as well. Lafsky, the Infinity, the Spartan IV’s, Sarah Palmer, Roland and the new Fireteams, like Majestic and Crimson made me feel much more immersed in the world and narrative.

      4. Spartan Ops. I absolutely adored playing through the post campaign Spartan Ops with my brother. The added narrative and story implications, coupled with the impressive cutscenes were such a treat. I would love for this mode to one day make a return.

      5. I loved just how “new” everything felt. It was such a fresh take on Halo. As mentioned before, the new art style, new weapons and tools, new enemies (I’ll mention those below) and new locations really reinvigorated my love for the IP.

      6. I really liked the new Promethean threat. They felt genuinely imposing and mysterious. It was so nice to be able to fight something other than the Covenant and Flood. I still can’t believe they erased the Promethean’s in Halo Infinite.

      7. The Multiplayer, while not everyone’s cup of tea, really resonated with me. I loved the expanded Spartan customization, the speedier gameplay, the new load-outs and ordinance system and the fact that they added lore to the multiplayer. The fact that multiplayer matches were simulation training matches on the Infinity was really dope. Most don’t care about that sort of thing but it gave a really cool sense of purpose and reason for the matches, which I really liked.

    13. I enjoyed it a lot. Battle rifle felt crispy to me in that game. Think I went through 5 of the specialization classes?

Halo has always been a campaign first sorta game for me, same for almost all games. In that respect, it is still one of my favorites in the entire franchise, up there with 2 and Reach. MP definitely was not it, I even remember leaving fairly quick and just sticking to Spartan Ops. To this day, no Halo game has been able to hit the emotional beats the 4 had. Infinite had some moments, like the “I won’t fail you.” line Chief said to the pilot, but it still didn’t match the emotional weight that 4 had. My biggest complaint about the story, is 343 seemingly pushing the fans emotions onto the Chief. That complaint has waned over the years, especially after having some serious relationships, but I still can’t help but think that whenever I think of the story.

    15. In general I like Halo 4 but the word I think I would use to describe it is “undercooked”. There are a lot of really interesting ideas in the game that feel like they never really fleshed out. Unlike most, I felt generally positive about the new direction 343 took the story. It felt like the start of a new chapter. However, by the time the game ends, I was left feeling unfulfilled in its conclusion. I would have preferred they give it an extra year of development and release it as an Xbox One launch title.

The multiplayer was so misguided that it’s no wonder the player base dropped off after release.

    16. Thought the multiplayer was bad, enjoyed the story bad didn’t enjoy playing the campaign all that much
