Starting next academic year, I’ll be commuting a lot by train and I’m looking for something fun to do during those hours. Should I get myself a Steam Deck or not? I’m torn, to be honest, but now seems like a good time, right with the sale going on? I just need some help making a decision.

    1. Best piece of hardware I’ve ever owned. I’d sooner give up my gaming PC than my SD

I was saving up for one and when I saw the sale I immediately bought it I’m super happy with mines

Outside of a few select games, I barely use my gaming pc anymore, even though I just upgraded it. My Steamdeck is the best gaming purchase I have ever done.

Being in your situation, with a lot of commuting on the train for the foreseeable future, I would definitely get it.

I have a lot of long train rides aswell. The Deck is just perfect for it. Such a vast amount of different games to play and it handles great. The only weak point is the battery life, which can be short when playing demanding games. In long distance trains theres always power outlets. When not, then I have a good power bank, so you might want to consider getting one too.
Theres a ton of games you can just download and play but I always felt like the true power of the Deck comes to those who are willing to tinker with it. Trying to setup games that arent officially supported or a bit older or getting mods to work. Like getting Oblivion running with mods. If you are willing to do this (I think its fun to do so) you have a really cool peace of hardware. And 400€ for it is a great price compared to how many hours of fun you’re getting for it (:

I guess it depends on how long you commute. Mobile consoles still dont have the best battery life so you should consider that.
