My tier list that ranks characters in the Mario franchise based on how many games they’ve been the main character of.

I had a few different rules for this:

1. If a character is the main playable character in a game, it automatically counts for them.

2. Remakes count, ports don’t. So something like Diddy Kong Racing DS counts separately, but the Switch version of Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker does not.

3. I felt like some games that have two characters names in the title should count for both. So Mario and Wario and Mario vs. DK count for Wario and DK, even though they aren’t playable. Wario’s Woods is a Toad game, as you play as Toad, but also a Wario game, as his name is in the title. I decided not to apply this to the Mario and Luigi games, as they are still majority Mario.

4. Bowser Jr’s Journey and Bowser’s Minions aren’t really full games, but it still felt kinda wrong not to include them.

5. I feel that Bowser’s Inside Story is the closest thing to a Bowser game, but it still didn’t feel right to fully give it to him.

6. Cranky was the original DK in lore, so I have the arcade Donkey Kong games to him as to not get a million comments pointing that out.
