Thank goodness, it finally worked! I initially considered returning the 2TB SSD Crucial X9 Pro from Best Buy because my Xbox only recognized it as media storage. Despite the Best Buy employees insisting it wouldn't work and recommending the official Xbox Seagate game drive (1TB), Being stubborn and trusting my gut, a bit of digging revealed that I needed a USB with 3.0 and speeds of 5, 10, or 20 Gbps. So, I returned the next day and picked up an Insignia 10Gbps USB-A to USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 (the Crucial X9 comes with USB-C to USB-C). With this, I could format the SSD for games, and now my Xbox One S runs noticeably faster, especially in load times. I'm thrilled with the outcome and plan to get another when I upgrade to Series X , though I might wait for the next console release “Xbox 2” lol. Hopefully, this post will assist others in the future, which is my ultimate goal.

    1. Yea the usb speeds are bottlenecked at around 300GBs and an actual I/o ssd is up to 3000GBs
