I made [this](https://old.reddit.com/r/nintendo/comments/ucgw04/its_been_five_years_and_the_switch_eshop_is_still/) thread about two years ago complaining about how abysmal the state of the eShop was. Now that some time has passed, it’s pretty sad to see that not only has it not gotten better, it’s gotten worse.

The eShop has begun seeing an influx of low effort games that use AI art in their [thumbnails](https://twitter.com/rubyinnes/status/1692498385390244165), or even worse, in the [games](https://twitter.com/OPootis/status/1719429138501550521) [themselves](https://twitter.com/VAsonicmega/status/1778974439159533578).

Coupled with how poorly the eShop still runs, how it’s impossible to discover quality hidden gems, how there’s ZERO content moderation on low quality mobile-esque games, hentai games, etc, and how many of these low quality games abuse the Sales page to keep themselves relevant, it’s just a headache.

With the Switch 2 likely coming next year, it’s incredibly doubtful that the eShop will ever improve. Let’s hope and pray that the next systems eShop will be much better. I would love to see themed sections, content moderation, and background music like on the Wii U eShop return.
